Prof. Dominik Schumacher

Dominik Schumacher has been teaching and researching as Professor of Interaction Design Technologies at Magdeburg Stendal University of Applied Sciences since 2014 and has been a member of the Spirit research group since 2021. As head of the master’s programs Interaction Design and Crossmedia, he develops student-centered teaching, learning scenarios and conducts research on the interfaces of design, computer science and society, with a focus on generative design, interaction design and media design.

Mr. Schumacher studied at the University of Kassel, the Universidat Autonoma de Barcelona, the China Academy of Arts in Beijing and the University of the Arts in Berlin. At the Institute for Transmedia Design at the University of the Arts in Berlin, he worked for over ten years as a lecturer and artistic assistant in the specialist class for new media (Prof. Joachim Sauter) and in the specialist class for process-oriented design ID5 (Prof. Burkhard Schmitz). At the same time he founded with four fellow students in 2009 the international design office: Studio Thegreeneyl. His work from the artistic design practice has been exhibited, awarded and published internationally (including Ars Electronica, Japan Media Art Festival, Shanghai EArts, LAB 3.0, Iconic Award, Kunsthalle Mannheim, DA&D, Tend London, EuroPrix Austria).

In academia, Mr. Schumacher initiates projects with a focus on generative / interactive design of knowledge, transfer of knowledge and participatory design of society. He is the author and editor of three books and over 10 articles on knowledge transfer, society design, information design, space-based digital media, and cross- and transmedia storytelling.
