As every year, the Spirit research group met for a retreat at an inspiring location of our own choosing to forge new ideas for the future and gather strength (and spirit!) for upcoming projects. This year, we didn’t want to go far afield and chose the beautiful Harz Mountains. In September we met for 3 days at the Schlosshotel Ballenstedt. In addition to discussing organizational, personnel and structural aspects, we focused primarily on working together as a team even better and in a more trusting manner. At the beginning, research group leader Michael A. Herzog gave a review of the previous projects, publications, conferences and other events that the Spirit group has organized so far. Of course, there was also talk about future projects.
The focus was on integrating new staff* members into the research group and getting to know the strengths and weaknesses of all members. To do this, we conducted a personality test on group position and a creativity test, among other things. Im Anschluss wurden die Ergebnisse geteilt und diskutiert. Darauf aufbauend wurden neue Rollen und Verantwortungen im Team verteilt.
Weiterhin wurde der aktuelle Arbeitsstand und die Ergebnisse der einzelnen Forschungsprojekte vorgestellt und Konferenz- und Journaleinreichungen diskutiert. Mit neuen Projekten in der Pipeline einigten wir uns auf die gemeinsamen Kommunikationsinstrumente und Planung neuer Aktivitäten sowie die Außendarstellung der Projektergebnisse. Außerdem sprachen wir darüber, wie individuelle Ziele mit den Projektzielen bestmöglich verknüpft werden können.
Zwischendurch und am Abend konnten wir uns die Beine im benachbarten Schlosspark Ballenstedt vertreten.
The crowning glory of the conference was a visit and creativity workshop at Neo Rauch’s graphic foundation in Aschersleben. All around it was a successful retreat and it was incredibly good to work together again with all colleagues in persona after such a long time in the home office.
