Advances in the technologies of our time have permanently altered the educational landscape and continue to have a tremendous impact on changes in teaching. Multimedia is becoming more present and more involved in education. To share the latest technologies and technical advances, the ITHET conference series was established in 2002 by the UNSECO Chair on Mechatronics of Bogazici University, Istanbul.
This year’s 18th International Conference on Information Technology Based Higher Education and Training (ITHET) was held on September 26-27, 2019 at the University Campus of Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences (Magdeburg site) directly following the ICWL. Both conferences were organized by the research group SPiRIT under the leadership of Prof. Michael A. Herzog and actively supported by the research assistants Leonore Franz and Veronika Weiß. 72 scientists from 26 countries seized the opportunity to exchange ideas on the use of technology-supported teaching for storing, disseminating and forwarding accumulated knowledge. Together, the conference worked out prerequisites for an appropriate use of the technical possibilities. The possibilities of new technologies were presented and participants were able to consult and discuss modernized learning environments and the resulting changes in university teaching.
Interesting papers on topics such as graduate competencies of the future and control and enhancement of student teamwork were presented by this year’s keynote speakers Keith Bowman (University of Maryland, Baltimore County, US), internationally renowned higher education leader, researcher and entrepreneur Janusz A. Koziński from Brock University in Canada, and Mathew W. Ohland, Professor of Engineering Education at Purdue University in Indiana.
IEETel 2019 and PRASAE 2019 were held concurrently with ITHET again this year as the building workshops.
